489 visas invitations cease 10 Sep 2019, 15 Nov last day for visa applications

Expression of Interest (EOI) applications for Subclass 489 - Skilled - Regional (Provisional) visas will close from 10 September 2019 with no invitations for this visa to be issued after this date. Any existing 489 visa invitations must be lodged by 15 November 2019 to make way for the Subclass 491 – Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa, which will commence on 16 November 2019.

Working holiday visas: France age cap increases to 35 from 1 July 2019; more countries not needing government support

France will be the third country to have the age cap increased to 35 years of age for its nationals from 1 July 2019 for Subclass 417 – Working Holiday visas. Also, more countries will be exempt from requiring evidence of government support for Subclass 462 – Work and Holiday visas as well as adding Ecuador and Greece to the program.

ImmiAccount down 30 June 2019; Subclass 870 – Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa opens 1 July 2019

The Department of Home Affairs has announced that the online platform to lodge many Australian visa applications, ImmiAccount, will shut down for system maintenance on the night of 30 June 2019. This will be to not only adjust visa application charges as most will increase from 1 July 2019, but to also add the visa application forms for the Subclass 870 – Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa, which will be the first internet application for parent visas.

The public register for sanctioned sponsors under the old Subclass 457 – Temporary Work (Skilled) visa and the current Subclass 482 – Temporary Work Skilled visa regime is analysed. Hospitality sponsors are overrepresented on this shame list making up around one-third of sanctioned sponsors since March 2015.
