188 visas: Investor stream to increase to $2.5 million; complying investments mix to change

Amendments to investor stream visas under the Business Innovation and Investment Program (BIIP) that will take effect from 1 July 2021 were announced today with the minimum investment for the Investor stream to increase to $2.5 million. There will be no increase to the minimum $5 million necessary for the Significant Investor stream.

Business skills: 132 visa closing 1 July 2021; Innovation visa to require at least $1.2 million net assets and $750,000 annual turnover; SIV shake-up coming?

Major changes to Australia’s Business Innovation and Investment program (BIIP) will see the Subclass 132 – Business Talent visa closed to new applicants, visa extensions streams grants reduced, and minimum thresholds for a 188 visa under the Business Innovation stream increase with net assets of at least $1.2 million and business annual turnover of at least $750,000 from 1 July 2021.

A new regime for complying investments for the Significant Investor Stream of the Subclass 188 and 888 - Business Innovation and Investment visas will begin on 1 July 2015. There will also be a Premium Investor Stream for those willing to give up AUD 15 million for 12 months.
