188 visas: Business skills visa applications closed on 31 July 2024

The Business Innovation and Investment Program (BIIP) will permanently close on 31 July 2024 for all new applications aside from extension streams, meaning those with existing invitations for a 188 visa must apply before this date.

The Federal Budget was passed down last night, with altogether unsurprising outcomes. Major reforms include the lowering of work experience for a subclass 482 visa from 2 years to 1 year from 23 November 2024. Business skills visas will, along with the subclass 476 visa, be scrapped.

A ministerial direction for skilled visas prioritising regional areas and a ministerial direction for student visas prioritising offshore applications came into effect recently. The number of 476 visas to be granted this financial year will be 3,735 and this may be the last time this visa will be available.
