This week saw debate by federal and state politicians on Australia’s population and immigration, with an emphasis on migration to regional areas. Current regulations, however, does not lend itself to this policy aim, except for General Skilled Migration visas, which already has one visa subclass requiring holders to live, study and work in a regional area. WA rolls out their Graduate Occupation List; job offer required

The WA Government released their Graduate Occupation List (GOL), which is a list for graduates of WA universities seeking a nomination for either a Subclass 190 – Skilled – Nominated visa or a Subclass 489 Skilled – Regional (Provisional) visa. While the list is extensive, additional requirements such as needing to secure relevant employment, and an invitation system might make the new scheme less appealing when compared with other states.
